Day 95– 13h July
2013 - Adelaide
So very very decadent – we are staying at
the Intercontinental Adelaide and it is very very nice – only because mind you,
this hotel could park our campervan in their long driveway which a lot of other
hotels we contacted weren’t able to because of the height of the campervan
being too high to be able to be driven into an undercover carpark. So this
morning a lazy sleep in and Walter went up for a quick swim in the outdoor
heated rooftop swimming pool.
Then to The Riverview Restaurant for the
most wonderful buffet breakfast – everything and more that you might wish to
enjoy for breakfast. This is a 5 star hotel and such a difference to our
accommodation over the past months. Yesterday when we arrived we felt a little
overwhelmed with the huge ornate hotel foyer, all the amazing valet service but
today I had totally got over that feeling and just enjoyed it ever so much !!!
After our gourmet breakfast we decided to
take the tram all the way to the famous beach, Glenelg – We were both a bit
tired after the constant traveling over the past weeks so sitting in the tram
and watching the world go by sounded like fun and it was.
Glenelg is a bustling seaside town and the
first rail service between Glenelg and Adelaide commenced in 1873 we found out
when we visited the Bay Discovery Centre which is well worth a visit. The first
electric tram ran down Jetty Road into Mosley Square on 13th
December 1929.
I love jetties and so Walter sat on a bench
and relaxed whilst I enjoyed a walk on The Heldfast Bay Jetty. I was amazed at
the amount of seaweed – in places it was over a metre high. I was also amazed
at the difference of this beach in summer time so I took a photo of the display
showing the 'now' view of the beach at Heldfast Bay, Glenelg.
We took the tram back and stayed on until
The Adelaide Entertainment Centre then back to our stop at The Adelaide Railway
Station. Walter wanted to rest and I wanted to shop so we went our own ways.
Walter was also keen to look at the planning for the next few days of our trip
which kept him busy after I got back.
Another plus is the huge flat screen TV in
our room so Walter was able to watch the whole stage of the Tour De France last
night and is looking forward to doing the same again tonight as we have a late
check out of 4pm but, we are planning to leave here at around 2.30pm and head to
the outskirts of Adelaide so that Walter can commence his ride in a safe and
suitable location.
