Day 7 - Charters Towers - is a well deserved rest day for Walter - and a chance for me to catch up on paperwork - emails and of course this blog.
AND - I was very keen to do a big walk as there hadn't been too much of an opportunity for this during the past few days. So I set off around 6am, as soon as it was light. I wanted to go to Tower Hill which I had read about the night before but wasn't really sure where it was. I stopped a friendly local, Kim who was also out enjoying the early morning. She gave me some directions - it was quite a distance but well worth the walk. I took the winding steep road up to the top and enjoyed a beautiful panoramic view and read about the gold chlorination process that had been used to be able to source the tail end of gold findings. I decided to walk the very steep walking track down the other side of the hill back to the road. I took a wrong turn and ended up in a different part of town than I wanted to be in & so the walk ended up being quite a long one - around 2 hours 20 minutes instead of the hour I had told Walter. Luckily he is used to my longer than planned walks so didn't worry !!
