Walter made the decision to combine 2 shorter rides into 1 long ride as we were worried about the weather and also the prevailing wind was a strong tail wind so excellent for a long ride.
Average of 31 km per hour. Comet was an interested little town where we stopped briefly. Ludwig Leichhardt an early explorer named the Comet River after seeing a comet whilst he was in the vicinity in 1845. He also discovered coal in the Bowen Basin.
Stopped at Emerald for a coffee and when Walter wheeled his bike in some people approached us interested to hear what we were doing. We told them of our trip and received $35 towards our fundraising campaign for Alzheimer's Australia Dementia Research Foundation.
Arrived in Clermont around 12.30 and went to Clermont Caravan Park. Lovely friendly operators who once they heard we were fundraising allowed us to stay for free. Lovely camping ground and we enjoyed all the birds who visited late in the afternoon - Apostle birds and red cheeked parrots.

Clermont is famous for gold and coal and many people visit to prospect for gold. The Blair Athol Mine was the largest coal reef in the world but closed in 2012.
The original town was flooded in 1916 and was re-located to its current location. A flood monument shows a piano lodged in a tree. This monument is a replica of the piano which was lodged in a tree during the flood.
