Day 5 - Clermont to Belyando Crossing (175 km)
Fantastic tail wind meant Walter enjoyed a massive 35km per hour average for the day's ride.
I was to met him at the 30km mark after leaving Clermont a little later but started to worry when I hadn't caught up to him at the 50km mark. I finally caught him at the 58km mark - he was flying.
I knew I was in a remote region of Qld when I saw a sign: NO FUEL FOR 167KMS
We both enjoyed the expansive views of grass plains which stretched to the horizon in all directions. The only sign of civilization was the road we were travelling on.
Arrived in Belyando Crossing around 12.30 - much earlier than we had expected. We had read some negative comments about this place but we very much enjoyed our stay there. The amenities were clean and included all the necessary bits and pieces. Mandy the operator was very friendly and once they heard we were fundraising they offered us a free powered site. Met 2 girls from Bordertown S.A. who had arrived a few days and would be working there for 3 months. What a great outback experience !! Also met some road works contractors and we had a big chat with them - they had just caught some huge yabbies and they showed us a phone video of a big kookaburra stealing one and proceeding to eat it - interesting stuff !!The rain poured down a little later but luckily Walter's ride for the day was done!!
