DAY 6 - 13TH APRIL 2013 - BELYANDO CROSSING TO CHARTERS TOWERS

a short rest & nutrition break
Day 6 - Belyando Crossing to Charters Towers (197 kms)

Walter left at 6.30am on this huge ride which is one of the largest days he will be doing. It was cloudy early but then became quite hot and sunny. Average was 32.8km per hour - pretty decent.

I saw another sign just as I was leaving Belyando Crossing which was even more startling than the one I saw yesterday.

This sign: NO FUEL FOR 197KMS.

We were prepared though as Walter had been very thorough in his research of this area !!

Walter saw a dingo on the road and I saw a few groups of emus on the plains. We spotted a wedge tail eagle and lots of black kites flying above too !

For the later sections of the ride I stayed close and stopped every 10km along the road to wait for Walter as it was hot and I wanted to make sure that he had enough food / drink and the opportunity to rest. He is suffered from a bit of saddle pain which will hopefully ease as he has a rest day planned for tomorrow.

Arrived in Charters Towers at around 1.30pm. Staying at a caravan park about 1.5 km out of town.

one of the locals I met along the way
