DAY 1 - 19 FEBRUARY 2015 BRISBANE TO TASMANIA (HOBART - SEVEN MILE BEACH)
Arrived in Hobart to a very comfortable 23
degrees, cloudy and excellent cycling weather according to our friends Steve & Gill who
we met up with at the Seven Mile Beach Caravan Park. Hire car was sorted at Hobart Airport, a near new
Hyundai I30 – a good choice for the next seventeen days as it has good baggage
space and seats 4 comfortably on the touring days when the four of us will
travel in our car.
Walter’s bike arrived safely and was
immediately put together and a test ride completed by Walter to check that
everything was in perfect working order which it was of course !
Seven Mile Beach is a sleepy little beach
village about 15 kilometers from Hobart and only a 10 minute drive from the
airport.
Sorell is a ten minute drive from Seven Mile Beach and what a
lovely drive it is as you pass over 2 beautiful narrow necks of land with sandy
shallow expanses of inland estuaries on either side. It is a peaceful and
pretty part of Tasmania and a nice relaxing way to start the trip.
Shopping needed to be done at Sorell and on our return, a walk on the Seven
Mile beach, dinner in the camp kitchen with Steve and Gill and an early night
as it was an early start this morning and we are both quite weary.
Tomorrow the guys will start the ride.
